]]> On 17 April 2023, the Head of the Defence and Statecraft Programme, Dr Daniel Fiott, published a peer-reviewed article on Europe’s defence industry. Under the title “Strategic Competition: Toward a Genuine Step-Change in Europe’s Defence Industry?”, the article provides an account of the development of EU defence-industrial policy since Russia’s war on Ukraine. The article also critically engages with some of the challenges that have emerged for Europe’s defence industry, EU Institutions and EU Member States. In so doing, the article asks whether the war on Ukraine will lead to a genuine step-change in EU defence-industrial cooperation. The article forms part of a Special Symposium of articles on the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base, which was published by The Economics of Peace and Security Journal.
