Roderick Parkes

Dr. Roderick Parkes is a non-resident fellow at the Swedish Institute for International Affairs (UI) and the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP). Until January 2024, he served as Director of the Research Institute at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and led the Alfred von Oppenheim Center for the Future of Europe, where he focused on updating German European and security policies.
Over the past 20 years, Parkes has held advisory roles across Europe. At UI, he conducted a special research project for Sweden’s foreign ministry on the geopolitics of migration. At the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM), he led the Europe Program. At SWP, he worked as a researcher in Berlin before heading its liaison office to EU institutions and NATO. Before joining DGAP, he advised on internal security and foreign policy at the EU’s Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) in Paris.
