Julien Paquet

Julien Paquet is an intern at the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Currently, he is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs with a minor in European Peace and Security Studies at the Brussels School of Governance (BSoG). His BA thesis is on resource conflict in the Congo Basin with a focus on how armed groups in Eastern DRC use resources to fuel insecurity and violent competition for profits. Moreover, Julien is passionate about regional dynamics in East Asia and Japan’s interests and security challenges, which he also studied during his exchange semester in Japan.

Lastly, Julien looks forward to his internship with the Japan Chair at CSDS to engage in research that sheds light on regional dynamics and further connects these to global security challenges while supporting his endeavour to pursue a career in conflict resolution and international security.
