Domenico Farinelli is a PhD student at the Center for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS). He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and European Studies from the University of Florence, a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the University of Trento, and an Executive Master’s degree in International Marketing from the Italy-USA Foundation.

Before joining CSDS, Domenico gained experience as a Project Assistant at the Egmont Royal Institute for International Relations and as a Research Assistant at the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies of KU Leuven University. He also served as a Liaison Officer during the Belgian Presidency of the EU (January-June 2024). Throughout his studies, he undertook a research internship at FINABEL, the European Army Interoperability Centre, and worked as a Senior Student Tutor at the University of Florence.

Domenico’s research interests include great power competition, grand strategy, and the European Union’s role in the international arena. His PhD project investigates how the EU positions itself within the US-China strategic competition, with a special focus on the Franco-German power dynamics.
