Prof. Dr. Richard Higgott, FRSA, FAcSS is Distinguished Professor of Diplomacy at the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) of the VUB. In a professional career split between Europe and Australia he is now also Visiting Professor in Political Science at the University of Siena and Emeritus Professor of International Political Economy at the University of Warwick. At Warwick he was foundation Director of the UK Economic and Social Research Council Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation and Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research. He has been Professor of Government at the University of Manchester. In Australia he was, inter alia Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in Foreign Affairs at the Australian National University, Winthrop Professor of Political Science at the University of Western Australia, Director of the Australian Institute of International Affairs, President of the Australasian Political Science Association and Vice Chancellor of Murdoch University in Western Australia. He is the author/editor of over 20 books and 130 articles in major journals including International Organization, Political Science Quarterly, Review of International Studies, International Political Science Review, Review of International Political Economy and International Affairs. He has edited three major peer reviewed journals: the Australian Journal of International Affairs, Global Governance and, for over 20 years, the Pacific Review. His latest book Civilisation, States and the Reset of World Order was published by Routledge in 2021.
