Lotje Boswinkel is a PhD candidate and researcher at the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Previously, she worked as a strategic analyst at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies and as a trainee at the EU Institute for Security Studies. Lotje holds a Master’s degree from the Institut d’études politiques de Paris (Sciences Po).

Lotje has written for the journal International Affairs and (co-)authored various policy briefs, think tank reports and chapters, including for the European Parliament, The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies, the EU Institute for Security Studies, the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington, the European Institute of the Mediterranean and CSDS. Her research interests include alliances, protégé defence strategies, deterrence, and European security.
