Bridging Allies seminar: ‘The Challenge of Emerging and Disruptive Technologies: its impact in Europe and the Indo-Pacific’

The Bridging Allies initiative of the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) of the VUB’s School of Governance seeks to explore ways to strengthen practical cooperation between the “core” US-led alliances in the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific through a track 1.5 platform bringing together experts and practitioners. CSDS conducts its Bridging Allies initiative in cooperation with the Asia-Pacific Initiative (API) in Japan, and in collaboration with researchers from the International Institute for Stategic Studies, the US Studies Centre of the University of Sydney, the Centre of Grand Strategy at King’s College London and the University of Waterloo in Canada.

The inaugural Bridging Allies workshop took place online in November 2021. It revolved around NATO’s upcoming Strategic Concept, and addressed questions related to NATO’s possible role in the Indo-Pacific.

This second workshop zoomed in on the challenge of emerging and disruptive technologies (EDTs), and their impact impact on global security and regional deterrence postures in Europe and the Indo-Pacific. It aimed to feed into the debate on NATO’s future Strategic Concept, and was organised in cooperation with King’s College London.
