Order, Counter-Order, Disorder? Regional and Global Security Orders in the Shadow of Sino-American Competition.

On 9-10 February 2023, CSDS was proud to cooperate with the United States Military Academy at West Point for a seminar entitled “Order, Counter-Order, Disorder? Regional and Global Security Orders in the Shadow of Sino-American Competition”.

Over 50 academic papers were delivered at the seminar, including by CSDS researchers. CSDS was extremely proud to welcome high-level guests to the seminar including the Chief of General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces and a former US Ambassador to NATO. The papers presented at the seminar covered topics such as Russia’s war strategies, the European security order, strategy and war in Eurasia, order in the Indo-Pacific, emerging technologies, irregular warfare and great power competition, grey zone conflict, finance and economics, social and behavioural aspects of warfare, ideologies in foreign policy and a lot more.

CSDS Director, Luis Simón, was present to open the two-day seminar and the Head of our Defence and Statecraft programme served as the CSDS lead on panel selections, as well as serving as an academic discussant on several panels. The two-day seminar was an opportunity to bring together researchers from across the transatlantic to discuss the momentous global changes underway. The seminar also sought to connect the academic community with cadets at West Point.
