States, Societies and Security in the 21st Century

The Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) and its partners the US Military Academy, Dickey Center (Dartmouth College), MESO Lab (Ohio State University) and the Polish Institute of International Affairs organised a major international seminar on 7-8 February 2024 at West Point, United States. Led by the Department of Social Sciences at the US Military Academy, the seminar brought together leading scholars and practitioners to debate and analyse some of the most intractable challenges of the 21st Century. Structured around the theme “States, Societies and Security in the 21st Century”, the seminar looked at the theory and strategy of international security; the challenge posed by China and Russia; how to tackle emerging and advanced technologies; US military alliances; deterrence and defence; irregular warfare; economic security; defence-industrial policy; and much more. As part of the deliberations, many CSDS researchers presented papers and the aim is to produce a range of policy-relevant papers after the seminar.
