Floor Doppen

Belgium

Floor Doppen is a post-doctoral researcher at the Brussels School of Governance where she works on the European Research Council project ‘Competition in the Digital Era’ (CODE): Geopolitics and Technology in the 21st Century’. She manages the CELIS Blog on investment screening, and has worked extensively with governments and domestic stakeholders on investment screening legislation, both in the EU as well as in Chile and Mexico. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Antwerp (2026). Previously she taught classes in international political economy, international relations, and economic security.

Her research interests focus on investment security and the shifting relationship between the state and the firm under conditions of geopolitical competition. Her PhD focussed on the political economy of investment screening in the EU. In her future research she is keen to further explore how firms and states coordinate to balance economic and security objectives, under which conditions state-firm interests align, and under which these clash. She also seeks to extend her empirical focus beyond the EU to Latin America, where political economy conditions vary and geopolitical pressures differ from those in the EU. Floor also enjoys combining the academic with policy oriented work and as well as working inter-disciplinarily.
