How can Europe navigate the US-China tech rivalry to safeguard its strategic autonomy? The Vrije Universiteit Brussel and CSDS are delighted to invite you to the ERC inaugural lecture on 12 May 2025 by Antonio Calcara. His inaugural lecture will introduce you to the CODE project, present some preliminary findings and offer reflections on the increasing intertwining of technological change and geopolitical rivalry. He will also guide you through the turbulent geopolitics of our time and the main building blocks of the CODE project. The CODE (Competition in the Digital Era: Geopolitics and Technology in the 21st Century) project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), focuses specifically on the links between geopolitics and technologies. It examines technological competition between China, the United States and Europe in three key sectors: semiconductors, cloud computing and space.
