The KF-VUB Korea Chair at the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS), held a closed-door roundtable on the sidelines of the Brussels Korea Forum at the Stanhope hotel Brussels. It gathered experts, policymakers and diplomats from Europe and Korea for a rich discussion on Korea-Europe security and trade cooperation. The first session on Korea-Europe security cooperation was guided by speakers Kang Kyung-wha, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Ewha Womans University & Former South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director of Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service. The importance of cooperation between the European Union and South Korea in the context of heightening Sino-American tensions, especially in development aid, was one of the vital topics discussed.
The second session on Korea-Europe economic and trade cooperation was guided by speakers Adeline Hinderer, Head of Unit Far East of the Directorate General of Trade at the European Commission, and Yoo Myung-hee, Visiting Professor of GSIS, Seoul National University & Former South Korean Minister for Trade. The success of the EU-ROK Free Trade Agreement was highlighted, as well as the challenges facing the global economy.
